Streaming MP3 via DataSource on j2me

Hi
If we download the mp3 file and play it on nokia 6681 it plays fine.But if we try to play mp3 file via datasource streaming it does not play on cell phone.The j2me player buffers the content but does not play.we are not using RTSP.The packets reach the cell phone and j2me player is realized but it doesn't play music.

Hi there,

I have worked quite a bit in hunting streaming solution in j2me, but till now no real solution.

In j2me we can not implement a piped input stream in whic we can write at one end and read from other end.

I thought that data source will be the solution for that but that also didn't worked for me....

I am experiancing that once you have created the data source and given to the player, the player does the read() from input stream attached to it and then after not moving ahead for next read cycle.

if any other observations...please let me know as well.

In general, use RTSP, if you like to implement streaming with Java ME. Usually all the other network transfer methods require that the whole file is downloaded first.

Also not that not all file formats are supported for streaming that only newer phones support RTSP (S60 2nd Edition FP3 and newer and Series 40 3rd Edition FP2... if my memory servers me right)

One way to do streaming is to read chunks to buffer and then create a new player when last part has finished. Works okayish with mp3. Smaller chunks, bigger chance to hear cracks and pauses while playing.
