    Dear friends,

Recently a group of us started working on a project involving NFC using Nokia 6131 phones.

We are deciding between using J2ME or Flash Lite as the development platform...

What we need to know, is there anyway to invoke NFC functions via Flash Lite? Does it even support NFC in the first place?

Any help is appreciated.. I can forsee myself being a regular here in the months to come

    Dev

    Hi,

There is no way to access NFC features of 6131 NFC from Flash Lite.

Hope this helped to make the choice :) and welcome to NFC discussion board!

Hi all, i have another question.

Would it be possible to Use J2ME to access NFC protocols in the Nokia 6131 phone, and using Flash Lite on top of it for the UI. So Flash Lite will communicate with J2ME while J2ME will communicate with the NFC protocols.

    THanks!!!!!

    Hi,

Nokia 6131 NFC does not support running midlet and flash lite application at the same time. So I do not see that you could do such routing.

    Hi Dev,

NFC uses Java and I'm sure native c to run the applications that access NFC APIs. At Nokia World the NFC representative told me that access to the API would be controlled quite tightly.

Clearly NFC presents a lot of really cool Flash Lite application possibilities and we should encourage Nokia to open an API to Flash Lite. It's definitely possible (with a bit of plumbing) through the Java container but would require some effort from Nokia.

Please could someone give me an update on this now that FlashLite 3 is embedded in the S60 ver.5.

Is it now possible, or will it be in the future, to access NFC technology through FlashLite?

    Many thanks,

    Rick

    Hi Rick,

There are no plans to incorporate NFC access to Flash Lite. Right now the hardware is very tightly controlled for security reasons, and I don't expect that this will be added to the Flash platform.

We always listen and watch for opportunities however and will review this if NFC becomes a major technology.
