Is it possible to "extend" S60 messaging application?

Hi,

I'm thinking about adding image smileys while reading SMS messages using the standard S60 message application. My idea is just to replace chars by images, for example this one :-) will be replaced by it's corresponding image.

My question is, if it is even possible to add this feature to that standard messaging application or if I'll have to make it as a separate viewer application (which seems stupid to me, to open another app just to see smileys:) ?

Yeah, it does look like the thing I would like to develop. So that means, that it should be possible to programm it.

New question, is there anyone, who konws how can I extend the messaging application and can help me or point me to some direction where could I start (I'm little advanced in C++ and kinda beginner in S60 developing, but that doesn't mind, I'm a quick learner, so you can point me even to some advanced docs) ?

I wouldn't recommend to do it if you are beginner, since it requires quite a lot of knowledge actually. Anyway if you want to check it, you could just start by looking into the MTM example.

I've got to MTM example just yesterday because of unexpected business. Anyway, if I understood it right, I basically need to create new MTM and then override all incoming messages with my MTM, right?
