ensymble: where to put icons for listbox?

Hi,

With ensymble's py2sis command I can put my script and other files to a /private/UID directory. What if I want to put some files elsewhere (like c:\\Data) ?

For example, I made a listbox with icons. I put the icons in the /icons dir (becomes /private/UID/icons) but they won't display from there - just empty space. They appear just fine when I put them manually to another directory (c:\\Data).

The questions:
1. where can I put icons so that they display in the listbox (and where not) ?
2. how do I put them there (with ensymble) ?

The right place is the c:\resource directory. Currently ensymble does not support this. I suggested this feature to be added to ensymble, so maybe we'll see it in the next version.

I read this forum almost daily and try to implement the good ideas. I'm planning to implement a general way to put special files into the correct directories, but all the obvious ideas have too much drawbacks to my liking. It's coming, just wait and see.

In the meantime, have you checked Ensymble's "simplesis" command? It's a powerful way to make a SIS file out of any kind of directory structure. You can unpack a "ensymble.py py2sis"-generated SIS file with SISInfo, add files and repack it with "ensymble.py simplesis ...".

Also it will be nice to have an option in ensymble which we could use to have an application install to predefined location, say either phone memory or Memory Card.
(The choice can be made on the time of packing the SIS rather then providing choice to the user on installation)

Ensymble v0.25 introduced the --drive parameter for py2sis and simplesis commands. Is that what you're looking for?

Yes, it helps. Now I can use below for the application to be installed on the Phone memory only

--drive=C

This option can prove useful for applications meant for applications Theft Security and Backup applications which always have to be installed on the C: as memory card removal may hinder their priority functionality.

I did actually have the same idea, right from the start - after all it's a few lines away in the readme I just thought it's a very obvious feature that nobody mentioned, so I brought this in public. After all, as can be seen from the responses here, not everybody gets the same idea without a hint (having to pack, unpack and repack again is a bit hacky), not to mention that not everyone is aware of the unpack utility.
