Turning off shutter sound?

Hi all

I really need to get rid of that irritating camera Shutter noise the phone makes when it takes a picture.
I tried to use javax.microedition.amms.control.camera.CameraControl :enableShutterFeedback
however Nokia still doesn't support this functionality.

I am even willing to turn off the phones master volume but I don't think this is possible from J2ME.

Is Nokia going to support this functionality at some point?

Does anyone have any ideas?

You could use Symbian C++ and make own camera application with it, then you could turn the audio off. anyway have you tried if the sound is still palyed when the device is in silent profile ?

Thanks for the idea, however I can't swap to c++ now, this camera function is part of a large JavaME app which I have already created.

Also I still here the shutter sound in silent profile, (both in a midlet and with manually taking a picture)

Camera shutter sound is related to privacy issues and laws, and this should be the reason why it's on even on Silent profiles (same thing for the red light on some phones).

Hi,

Create a small silent track .wav/.mp3, play it just before you call the takeSnapshot method and you get rid of the Shutter noise.

Doesn't seem to work at least on S40 5th edition FP1 emulator, a sound player cannot be initialized (prefetch fails) when a capture://image player is active, and creating a capture://image player fails if there's a sound player in prefetched state.

I also tried playing a tone before capturing an image (http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...l=1#post701820), but the tone is simply interrupted when the shutter sound starts, and the shutter sounds plays normally.

Does anybody know, if these tricks work better on hardware - which devices have they been tested to work on? Any other workarounds?

I read elsewhere that the sound is a legal requirement in Europe, and therefore it can't be turned off (at least not without somehow circumventing the built-in phone support).
