[Moved] Query about wap and web apn in a simple http connection

Hi All,

Here I am making a simple http connection.(Taking help of exampleclient in sdk examples)

I have tested it for different WAPAPNs(Access point name).

Should it work for also web(internet apns).

should i make some modification for it.

What is the basic difference between these two apns.

Hi,

WAP access point has WAP GW IP and Port and Internet APN doesn't have these.

So in case of WAP APN in URL u have to give Absolute URL and submit request to WAP APN's WAP G/W IP

In case of Internet APN give relative URL and submit adress is IP of the host.

thanks for your reply. i have not much idea about these apns.

so i may not understand fully what you are trying to say.
here i am submitting the complete url through http request.
my query is that is it using wapapns.
if yes please tell me how to make same request for internet apns.

It probably won't make much difference which APN you use. In theory, some/all content could be blocked in the WAP APNs, but it doesn't often appear that is the case.

But to check, just use the browser on the handset. Your app will have the same connectivity as it.

hello nigel,

there is no problem for get method in http request .

but for post we are getting problem while using interner apns.

here my browser on the handset connect through wap apns.

my app works fine for this device both for get and post method.

but for other device which uses internet apns only get case works fine.


can you suggest any reason for this.

So, this is probably not related to the APN. However, it might be that using a different APN makes the handset appear as a different IP address to the web site. If the web site filters on IP address (I don't expect this is likely).

If the browser works and your app doesn't then this is an application level error, not network. You should probably look at things like the proxy being used. Maybe something to do with the user agent the phone presents.

The best place to look for this is in the log of the web server if you have access. It should tell you why the post is not working. Otherwise, you can use a packet logger (ecmt will do for http logging)
