Receiving Messages

Hi all,

I have created an app that is able to do the following,

1) Receive and Send from the same port.
2) Send through an application to another phone that doesnt.

Now what i want to achieve is that i want to be able to do the reverse of no. 2. Which is, a phone without the application sends an sms to the another phone which has the app, and the app is able to detect that incoming messages. I been trying to change the ports and everything.

One of the thred mentioned that this cannot be done. While another said that the default port for all phone is either default :5000 or :0.

Which of the above mentioned cases is true ?

We cannot change any thing in phone's inbuilt application so that is not possible. If your application will receive sms on port 0 then your application will not get data.

On many phones you cannot see the messages going to the inbox (which is not necessarily port 0). So no can do.

Now a few more questions,

Is there a possible way for my j2me application to automatically run in background upon installation,
From what i see, alot of people suggessted PushRegistry.

If i have a phone installed with the j2me app, and its off. When i turn on, how i do enable my application receive the sms sent to it when its turned off?

As far as my experience the messages which we are sending is even working in same way as simple messages. So if someone send sms for that application but the mobile is switched off then it will receive it when it will be switched on. The settings of push registery will not be removed when we will switch off the device.

use message listener interface and create another midlet
this midlet will act as listner if you specify 5000 port it will fetch msg from port and you can do further processing this midlet will work even if your appl is closed

the midlet should be able to send sms to any port.
maybe same result can be obtained in same manner to receive sms...
