Changing UID

Hi All,

I have a query regarding changing UID of an application.
I started off creating an application using unprotected UID. Since the application under question was a Proof of Concept, I continued working with the UID. Now, I need to send the application for Symbian Signing. If I am not mistaken, I would need to change the UID of the application to a protected one. How do I do that ? How do I get a unique Protected UID ? I am using Carbide 1.3 IDE. Would changes made to the UID (in the MMP file) reflect to the whole application ? Please advise.

Hi everyone,

I have developed an application using Unprotected UID since what I was developing was akin to Proof of Concept. I would like to get the application signed by Symbian, for that I need to use a Protected UID. I got one from the Symbian site. I changed all occurrences of the old UID with the new one. The application complies, I can create a sis file and also sign the sis file using developer certificate, but I can't seem to install it on my device - Nokia E50, it completes to around 75 % and then displays a message "Unable to install". It seems to work on the emulator though. Any idea what went wrong ??

Uninstall the previous version of the application first. Restoring phone's factory settings might also be a last option. Then make sure that you have removed all the occurrences of the previous UID, wherever they might be in the project (source files, resource files, project files or even file names).
