UI: Pop-up menus (7650)

I did a search but couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for.

Is it possible to do pop-up/out menus over a standard Canvas object?

For example, on a Nokia 7650 if you go to your contacts app and select options you get your menu but the "create message" item has a ">" next to it and when you move over this item then another menu appears over the top.

unfortunately it is not possible to create Symbian-like cascade menus with MIDP 1.0.
