Avoid notification tone in recording audio

Hi,
I am trying to record audio (voice record- not call record) in S40 5th edition phone (5310) uning J2me. Automatically at the start of the recording a tone is played for notifying the start of record. When I run the same application in S60 phones there is no such notification tone.

Can the experts please tell me a way to getrid of this tone?

Have you disabled the notification sounds from the sound settings (cannot remember the exact name of that)?

Thank you very much for answering. Yes I have disabled all the tones. Still it plays the tone at the start of the recording.

In my application I am trying to process the data realtime. Since there is no access to the audio buffer while recording, I use two buffers and swap the buffer for processing. Each time when I swap the buffer and start recording this tone is played (and it is being recorded).

What about setting your phone to silent mode? (note that I am looking for workarounds here, as it looks like that turning them off by settings is impossible)

Sorry for the delay. I tried recording after setting the phone into silent mode. Still the tone is there.
