6300 s40 3rd edition FP2 permissions problem

Hi there.

I have a midlet that records video and audio, uses http and the fileconnection API. I have added the permissions in the JAD file and a weird thing is going on.

When the midlet is NOT signed the app always asks before accessing the file system or network or camera as expected. If I answer yes then everything works fine.

When the midlet is signed and after changing the app permissions I get an "access not allowed" message.

The same app works fine on S60 devices when it's signed.

Any ideas? I would very much appreciate the help as I can't figure this out.

Well a bit more on this from me.

I 've managed to pinpoint the problem. The message appears when I use player.start().

Same happens if I use player.prefetch(). If I comment this no message appears on the screen but no video as well obviously.

Weirdly there is no exception thrown there. I really don't know what to think about this.

Furthermore, if I don't press back when I get the message the player starts normally!

Which permissions have you requested in the JAD?
What is the locator/URL you are using to create the problematic player?

The permission in the JAD are:

MIDlet-Permissions: javax.microedition.io.Connector.http, javax.microedition.media.control.RecordControl, javax.microedition.io.Connector.file.write, javax.microedition.io.Connector.file.read

same exist in the manifest file.

The locator on the 6300 is:
file:///C:/predefgallery/predefvideos/test.3gp

One more thing for the 6300 again.

Whether I record to a file located on the memory card or a file in the actual device my recording stops automatically after a few seconds.

Is that a memory issue?

I would assume when recording on to a file on the memory card the device would be able to keep on recording until there was no more space available.

Hi - have you been able to resolve this issue? We have a J2ME app that also does video and playback within the app, and although we have not explicitly tested on 6300, we are worried we will see similar problems since our app is signed as well.

Do post a reply if you have a resolution to this problem.

This appears to be default behaviour with Series 40 devices. I'll check this issue for more details.

I haven't really figured out a solution to the problem yet. I did run the same app on a 5300 which is based on the same platform and that seemed to work flawlessly. No problem with permissions and no stopping after a few seconds.

ddbhasin the biggest problem you will find with signing is that a lot of operators remove the certificates from the phones. Everybody is pushing for java verified nowadays so many phones do not have either verisign or thatwe certificates unfortunately.

Just found out a solution on the limit of the recording on another thread by r2j7.
Don't remember the url but the solution is

recordControl.setRecordSizeLimit(1000*1024);

Root cause: The method

RecordControl.setRecordSizeLimit(Integer.MAX_VALUE);

seems not to be able to take the Integer.MAX_VALUE value correctly, therefore it's advisable to use x*1024 (where x=number of kbytes) instead as a workaround.
