Autofocus S60 3rd ed FP1 to FP2

Hi, I have builded an application using the autofocus (based on the ccamera exemple with autofocus 2.1) for the FP1. And I was watching to make it compatible with the FP2.

So I saw in the known issue that for the FP2 the autofocus must be accecible with CCameraAdvancedSettings, but I don't have found any exemple.

Can I use this library in the same way of the autofocus FP1 ? or it's totaly different ?

So my real question is : "it take a lot of time to rebuild a new application for FP2 or it's not a lot of work for adapting the FP1 version for FP2"

I think for more compatibility I have to make a "without autofocus" version.

So if someone has some advicies or exemple, he will be welcome

Take a look at Symbian documentation on auto focus related methods of CCameraAdvancedSettings interface:

Setting auto focus type triggers focus search (you will need to set other auto focus related settings before setting the type) and when optimal focus is found (or has failed and will not be searched any more) event with UID KUidECamEventCameraSettingsOptimalFocus will be emitted. (in case focus attempt has failed the event is accompanied by error code).

Also note that AFAIK this API is not included in S60 SDKs, and it is Symbian owned API, so if you need it you should contact Symbian for their partnering options.

As far as I know, Autofocus library had worked for me in all 3rd ed FP editions. even the same code works with the 2nd edition autofocus api.

The problem apearrs with Symbian 9.3.

I still dont know why but my autofocus applications does not work in Symbian 9.3 models like 6220 classic and N78.
The applications does not raise any error and all seams look fine, but the autofocus does not started.

Something has changed in that Symbian 9.3 release.
Anyone knows why?

So mopa, you said that the application must work anyway without error ?

It's strange... When I lauch my app I have an error "feature not supported" and the cam is not displayed. I though it was about the autofocus. So I have to investigate in the other "features" I use... I don't know where it come from... Cryptographie api ? rsocket ?

I'll watch about the CCameraAdvancedSettings when this feature problem will be fixed.

okay I find where was this problem from. It was setting the zoom factor to a bad range for my test device (N78), now it's "fine". the application start but I don't have yet try to work with the FP2's autofocus.

I'll check what I can find about this, I just saw there was an "Introduction to the Camera API" just released this mouth. It probably could be a good start for it.

But I must say that i'm realy surprised about what you just say symbianyucca. Do you mean that for building autofocus apps on third Serie FP2 I must ask symbian for partnering, but for FP1 it's okay ? ... I find it just a little strange

Congratulations for fix your problem!

Please let me know if you get the autofocus feature in your N78. It is important for me, because all my autofocus applications does not work with this Operating system Version (9.3) If you get it, you could give me the key, to make it works..

About your last comment, maybe youcca had understood bad .. It is true that Autofocus api is not included in SDK but it is a public package and you can download it from Nokia website.. so you should be able to use it without problem.

That's the link that will give you the most advanced API Nokia has released for FP2!

It contains the API (.lib) for CCameraAdvancedSettings.
Unzip it and copy the relevant file to 9.3 SDK Feature Pack 2/1.1!
