Does it depend on handset...? if yes how to find out the max size?

As far as i know there is no restriction on the number of records in an RMS.

Lookup the device specification from Forum Nokia and API specification in Forum Nokia JavaME developers library.

You can also query record store size, number of record stores, size available etc from within your application.
