USB or data cable communication

Hi,

Is it possible to send data over USB to a serial port or usb connection in a computer using Symbian C++ on a S60 or other nokia device? I want a Symbian application to be able to send and recieve data from a device and display it on the screen as a graph etc.

If there are any java options, i would prefer that because i am mostly a java programmer on nokia phones.

JavaME has no serial port support at all, at least as I know.
Otherwise there is no "or", on current S60 devices you have an USB device endpoint, and no "conventional" serial port. Since the USB host side is not present in the devices, it is not possible to connect devices directly via USB.
For communicating with a PC, you can find a description if you search for USB in the Wiki.

well i do not really care how the connection is made, the only requirement is that in some way a cable is connected to a nokia device, preferable uysing java or a symbian java hybrid, and then byte data can be exchanged.

I'd like the same, but it looks like impossible to connect to USB wires of phone and use them for some kind of communication.

Another option is to buy Bluetooth chip and connect it in serial port mode.
