Hi all,

I want to monitor a connection that has been opened via an application itself.

Example:

I have application "A" that open a connection to update itself from specific server.

Could i monitor this connection??

Note:
I don't have the source code of this application, i only want to spy on it.

You have to define the "spy" objectives in order to get a more detailed answer about what is possible and what not.

As for monitoring a connection, how about searching for "connection monitor" in the SDK help?

Assume that i have an application "A", i want to know what files it downloaded "if any", what the connection it established, and so on, and i'm dealing with this application "A" as a black box.

While you can see the connection and read its status and properties (see the Connection Monitor application built in the phone) the connection data is generally speaking private to that application. Then, the application might use secure protocols which would make spying into it even less feasible.

That assumes an HTTP connection. If we assume also that the connection is also done thought the built-in HTTP stack then using an HTTP filter could give you the information you need.

I mean that you should not expect to be able to see what is being exchanged over a https:// session, even if somehow you would be able to sniff the exchanged TCP packets.

hmm, i get it now, but what if i'm trying to spy on unsecure connection, is it possible? and how?

Now i could spy on the application and gets its UID using RConnection, could anybody tells me if i could get what exactly the type of data it download, or the webpages it visits?? "either the URL or whatever anything that could help"
