Suppressing beep of SMS

We are developing application on Symbian 9.x devices and want to get it Certified signed.

What is the legitimate way by which application can receive notification of SMS before it reaches inbox ?
What is the legitimate way by which application can suppress the beep of incoming SMS ?

You could maybe search a bit on this Dibo, this particular use case has been discussed plenty of times.

Anyway:
1. Sockets receiving (seach Dibo & wiki for more information)
2. No really working solution available.

1. well receiving of SMS can be handled this way:

derive from MMsvSessionObserver and implement HandleSessionEventL. As already said, this is discussed many times in wiki and discussion boards.


2. To avoid notification, you can mark the sms as READ or set unread to false as soon as the new SMS comes. This will definitely stop the general SMS ringtone, but on some phones, a small beep cannot be avoided, like in 3230, this small beep cannot be avoided.

What are your target phones / sdks?

Use socket it's the easy away....
