Does Nokia Series40 3rd or 5th Edition support HTML?

Hi.
I find out, that Nokia Series40 3rd and 5th Edition Browsers supports a subset of HTML. But what does that mean?
Is it possible to render HTML 4 with this device or not?

I try to open a "normal" website with a Nokia 5220 expessmusic and it worked.
The result was not awesome, but I the device desplay to hole page.

S40 supports full HTML 4.01 starting from 6th edition, while previous editions (3rd and 5th) supports a subset of it.

Can you explain a little more about that "subset" that is supported in 3rd and 5th edition?
What is possible and what is not feasible with 3rd and 5th edition?
