integrating Google Maps

hi all..

I have successfully obtained the cellid and network_id of my device. Now I want to make an application in which I would use the Google Map web services and send the above found values to find the actual location corresponding to that cell_id n network_id.


Any help please...

No way really to do that, you need a geo location (like latitude & longitude) to be able to tell Google map on where the map should be taken from. Anyway, you could maybe try doing it with WRT Widgets, There is simple example available in the Wiki: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...th_WRT_widgets

Actually with S60 3.2 devices probably some 3.1 devices also) devices we can acquire the location by using the location accusation API if there is no integrated GPS. If you go to settings ->General->Positioning
we see positioning methods (4 are defined at least in E90 communicator) one of these is network based. and also there is positioning server (internet access point and supl.nokia.com). When we use the positioning API and no GPS available then it gets the approximate location from this server (by the access point with GPRS). If we enable only network based positioning (if available) then still we get the Google map working (for example). I think in background it works like this way.

Actually what I want is something else.. Suppose I have cell_id and network_id value in a text file or in a database in my personal system. Now I want to pass those values to the Google Map API and obtain the exact location for that particular cellid n networkid and display it on Google Map.

that would be great service to have, but at least I did not see them having it, though if you have a link on the service where you can pass any cell-Id and get geo location, that would be great to have.

If you don't have GPS in place you can't get exact location but with Cell ID you get approximate location.
I think you can use the Location Acquisition API and use the NBP PSY (Network based Positioning).

you cant get the exact location, just an approximation as suggested by mahbub.
Find the C# code on the following link, to geocode cell-ids. Here you can get the idea how to send http request to Google Maps.

Please note that this API is hidden and all pages containg it are being removed.

Unless you have purchased an enterpise license, this is against Google's terms and conditions. Make sure you read section 10.8

"You must not ... use the Static Maps API other than in an implementation in a web browser"

Also, section 7.3

"Google gives you a personal ... non-assignable ... license to access"

And the one that always stops me from using Google even on a Web site... section 9.1

"Your Maps API Implementation must be generally accessible to users without charge"

And static maps are so boring

Try a vector based mapping component instead, it reduces the amount of data downloaded and gives a much better user experience, see the MapTP Component Interface for Symbian S60.
