What happens when a server my client is connected to on a public IP goes down

I have written a code using RConnection, RSocket...the standard one... using active scheduler handling all the status completion.. i wish to know if i m communicating with a server on a public ip and if the server program crashes what notification is generated at the client side (i.e. i call RSocket::Read(TDes8& aDesc,TRequestStatus& aStatus) to read the response)

Please provide certain inputs..

I Think it gives you 503 (Service Unavailable).

503 would be a HTTP/SIP/etc. application-level error code, so if you get it (as a string), it definitely means that the server still works, though a certain service is unavailable. If the server dies and the socket gets closed, you should rather expect KErrTimedOut or just a simple KErrEof in the status.
