Signed x Java Verified

Hi,

Is it necessary the midlet to be Java Verified to be published on Ovi, or is it enough for it to be SIGNED? My company has a Verisign code sign certificate we commonly use to sign our midlets, and it is widely recognized by Nokia handsets, so is that enough to sign it out or Java Verified is MANDATORY?

We verified midlets before to be shipped in Nokia devices, so, we have experience in both, but if the requirement is to be SIGNED, it will expedite things a lot.

I was in the same situation and with no response from Nokia I tried submitting the Verisign signed application... Got rejected for invalid signature.

Java Verified signing has not been ever requirement for the Ovi Store.
As long as applications is signed so that no signing related warning messages are shown it is fine.

What is said in documentation about Java Verified is that application needs to fulfill Java Verified requirements meaning that application must pass Java Verified test cases.

Alternative signing programs that are accepted are Verising and Thawte signing:

Do you know this from experience or speaking officially for Nokia?

We submitted a legally signed application and got the following rejection:
Comments from the QA team:
Failed Case 1: Certificate Error
Summary: Application was not properly signed
Requirement: All application and contents being submitted to Nokia must be certified through trusted foundations such as Java Verified or Symbian Signed and must obtain a signed certificate before it is accepted through Publish to Ovi.


Notice that they never mention other trusted 3D parties.

peksi1, I looked again at the link you sent and its related to Nokia signing not to OVI signing.
So far this question was raised again and again in this forum and no one from Nokia commented.
So I ask again, do you have actual knowledge from Nokia that this is the case?
Did you submit a Verisign signed application and got it past the first stage of QA?

And it explicitly only states JV signing:
"All mobile applications offered through the Nokia sales channels must be tested and signed through either Java Verified or Symbian Signed. Forum Nokia supports these programmes and participates in developing and improving them to serve you better. "

Java Verified would be very expensive for small Developers. 175 USD per device class against 500 USD per year for Verisign is too much.
