Series 60 & Timing Advance Signal

I am developing for the Nokia 7650 using C++ and the Symbian SDK version 1.0.

I would like to know if it is possible for a Symbian application to get the current Timing Advance value of the signal received by the phone from the nearest cell transmitter.

The cloest I can find is the CID/LAC information. I also would dearly love to be able to retrieve the TA field, but I can't see a way.

I'm considering paying the nokia people to answer my question. Anyone want to chip in?

Perhaps one of the Nokia experts could be so kind and tell us if it is possible at all? And also if it is possible using a public SDK downloaded from forum.nokia.com? If there is a way - than give us a hint on how to get it!

we will really appreciate any help from you on this point. I have been trying to find a solution for quite a long time but without any luck. There are quite many posts on forum.nokia.com regarding this topic but non of them suggests a solution. I also could not find anything useful in the Internet. Please tell us if it is possible at all to get the TA value and information about neighbouring cells.

AFAIK Symbian or any third party api doesn't provide access to the current Timing Advance value of the signal received by the phone.

There is CID/LAC which when one calls to other phone goes to the operator and the operator sends CID to which the number is to be dailed .

This is My personal experience:

usually i put my phone near to my computer monitor, i noticed that before the call comes my monitor flickers and then after some delay i get an sms or call.


I tried for getting some system info .How it is recognised.

I research it from a operator here that some SIM signals are passed assoon as number is dailed and based on cellID and it receives acknowledgment after this. Then the sms or call is proceeded.

My conclusion is Symbian doesn't provide any native access or API's In this regard.
Hope in Future we will have access to this kind of programming too.

Though AFAIK TA can be retrieved using RSat class by sending "PROVIDE LOCAL INFORMATION" command. But the thing is that etelsat.lib is not included into public SDK...

Hi!

I can provide you links of many Series 60 applications which do provide TA and neighbouring cellid solutions, but how????????? is a big question. If one can provide such solutions then there is definitely a way out. Some one please wake and disclose the facts for the general good.

What I believe is that Nokia has censored/copyright this information. But there must be a way/proceedure through which others have got it. Please!!! if any one knows that, please guide us through the process

The API's is been depricated and i'm resarching on it for the possibities , I'm not getting much resources or help on it. But still working on it when i'm free from work.. Will update u if i find anything workable...
