How to work with Linux

Hello guys,

when I browse the S60 docs and related things I can hardly figure out where to start setting up an enviroment to code.
Is there a device emulation for linux (or windows?) available.
Or are there kind of dummy libs for all the s60 specific things, so that I might just run my python code in linux, ignoring s60 specific things?

Or more general:
How do code for pys60 using linux.

ps: I don't like the idea of stressing my accu using the btooth-console. Or is there something I am missing?

Hi,

The SDKs (emulators) are available only for Windows and can be found here. There are some tricks to install and use them on Linux in this article.

After you install an S60 SDK, download the corresponding (or the closest) PyS60 SDK (the ZIP archive from the same place you download PyS60) and extract it in the S60 SDK's installation directory.

As for IDEs, search this forum to see if you can find something. I don't think 3rd party IDEs (meaning not provided by Nokia) can be used with the emulator for Python development. A simple text editor is usually the best option. After you write the script just put it in the emulator's Python directory and run it or transfer it to your phone and run it.

• PyS60 compat, a wxPython-based implementation of some of the user interface toolkit APIs defined by Python for Series 60 (PyS60) (use CVS head).
