Self Updating Widgets

Hi,

Is there any way I can update an already running widget? I need to check for updates when the application is launched (doable), display a message if an update is available (doable), download the update if the user's answer is affirmative (doable) and once downloaded it should update itself automatically while the old version of widget is running in the background (need help). Is this possible? I need to do this without the user having to remove the widget from home screen (this app is targeted at N97 devices). Please help.
