    Hi all,

A quick question. I'm planning to submit an application for symbian signed that uses the camera API provided in the latest camera example by nokia. I am packaging "camerawrapper.sisx" into my app. However if other apps has the exactly the same embedded sis, the app won't be installed and returned with error "update error".

What should I do to prevent this? If i packaged the sis this way and submit this to symbian signed, will they fail me because of this? Thanks.

Just try it first. "Update error" will occur if your own .sisx tries to overwrite a file which has been deployed by an other installation package. However in case of embedding, there is no "other", because the camerawrapper.sisx tries to re-install itself.
Unfortunately you still have to re/search and experiment a bit (embedded or embedding should be relevant search keys for the Wiki, pay special attention to Known Issues if you find some, and the DiBo), because the real behavior varies a bit.

Thanks. Nothing interesting after a prelim search on DiBo. Will try harder tonight.

I've tried the following on two different handset and this is what happened:

    1. Install one application with the embedded camerawrapper.sis
    Application installs and runs normally.

    2. Install second application with exactly the same embedded sis
The application also install successfully. However, both application does not response when select from menu.

    3. Remove either one of the application.
The remaining application also does not response.

This is turning out to be more interesting than I've expected -_-"

Can I go directly to symbian signed and ask them for their opinion? Or it sounds like a lost clause and it will be "easier" if I discarded the embedded sis and rewrite the app without it?

    Hi,

Since the code is available you can change the UID of the example camera app and use it with your application. In any case your application will require signing. Also refer to the License text file before reusing.

The program that I'm looking at is already compiled and packed as a SIS file, so it wouldn't be possible to change the UID.

Anyway, after some help from colleague, found the following wiki which solve exactly the problem:

Thanks everyone for helping. I'm very much appreciated.
