Developing a Theme Creator Application in w/c series? (nS40? nS60?)

good day to all of you! we are college student currently ambitioning to develop a theme creator application running on mobile phones, for our thesis.. since this field of research is somehow limited as for the mean time.. we would greatly appreciate suggestions and any help from people here... the truth is we are only first timers and newbies with regards to mobile application development... here are some questions we would like to ask:

1. what series do you think we should dedicate this application? Nokia series 40 or Nokia Series 60? we are currently confused about what series we should develop this application...
2. what mobile application development software would you suggest for us to use to be able to program this application efficiently?
3. and finally, is this project possible for us to complete within 5-6months, considering that we are just newbies in this field?

we will really appreciate any help, suggestion and anything that you can say about this matter... thank you in advance...

p.s.
if anyone of you can also help us find some tutorials with regards to mobile application development, video tutorial or sites, please help us to find them.... please?? we are just young students who are desperate to comply with our requirements, and also to challenge our newbie skills, because most of our instructors tell us its kinda impossible, but we want to prove them wrong.... thanks in advance....

The theme file formats and specifications for S40 or S60 have not been published. So for your project you would have to spend time reverse-engineering things, too (not just creating an actual theme creator application).

I think it is easy to develop it for S60 phones (AS i think that series 60 phones are rich in feature coz they have Symbian OS )

I think there are ony two languages which CAN drive this task i.e Symbian C ++ (Powerful) Or Python (Easy and Can b extended by SYmbian C++ )

I think might be..coz one man already created this kind of application for S60 v2 phones .
