Tutorials for custom GUI controls

Hi
I want to make a j2me based app which will have GUI similar to gmail's mobile version in which it shows inbox mails in a list view. I tried to find various libs but found no solution plus I think that adding an entire library will make an application heavy. Therefore now I am more willing to create my own GUI control specific to my need.

My queries are:

• Any book/online resource deals with J2ME/J2SE GUI controls
• any tutorial which gives hint to create a gmail like GUI?
• some demo apps?

I will suggest you to take a look at LWUIT.

Check out LWUIT Demo, it shows some good list which can be used of inbox view but it might add 100~110kb on your Obfuscated JAR size.

You can also check http://www.tinyline.com/ (it is also used in the gmail mobile client)
