Can Java ME application runs on all devices which has Java?

Hi All,

We are trying to know that, can we install application developed on Java Me in all the mobiles?

Say I developed a HelloWorld application in Java Me(MIDLet) with MIDP and CLDC and able to test with Nokia SDK emulator. We are able to install on Nokia phones. It is working great.

Can we install same .jar file in other phones?

depends upon the JSR's that application used and whether the device support those JSR's

yes, you can install this (hello world) app or other mobile devices that support Java it should work.

But as the application starts to grow more powerfull and starts depending on device specific API's or adavace JSR's that might not be present on some other devices it would require some porting effort after which It can be installed and run on all different devices.

For your information there are some java apps/games which are specifically designed for Symbian devises. It will run on only on Symbian OS.

Yes, it is possible.

However, Java devices differ in a huge variety of ways. As previous writers suggest, the more complex your application gets, the less likely it is to work on different devices.

There is an entire industry based around "porting" Java applications from one device to another. Most of the big game publishers (EA Mobile, Gameloft, etc.) will spend more money on porting their Java games than they will on developing them in the first place.
