    Hi all,
Can anyone help me in getting the Nokia manufacturer certificate for java application (Symbian and Series 40 both).
Right now i have verisign class 3 certificate, but still one need to set the permissions from out side for better usability. So tell me if there is a way to get our java app certified by Nokia.

    Thanks a lot!

It is not possible to obtain a Nokia certificate. If you are developing an application for Nokia, which Nokia plan to embed (factory pre-install) on their handsets, then they might choose to sign it using their certificate, but they will still not provide that certificate to you. Manufacturer signing from Nokia is not available for developers working on their own projects. Nokia do not have a "certification programme" to enable you to get your app signed in this way.

Thanks a lot Graham for your quick reply.

So is there any other certificate by which we can get rid of these extra permission on Symbian devices(For java app)?

Signing by the network operator will usually have the same effect, but only on devices with that operator's SIM card. Each operator will have it's own process (or no process at all) for this, so you need to contact whatever operator(s) you want to work with. Even if your operator does have such a process, it may involve rigorous application testing, their approval of your application (for example, they may refuse to endorse a gambling game if that doesn't fit with their corporate image), and they may require that you meet particular standards as a developer (such as having professional indemnity insurance, to cover legal costs should your application damage any user's device or data). Some operators will only sign applications to be pre-installed on operator-specific firmware, or those application that they themselves distribute as part of a value-added service.

In general, you are unlikely to get your application signed in the way you want.
