I'm working on a commercial application using Python and a bit of C++. Right now we're decided to go with 1.4.5 as the 1.9.7 runtime is way too big (almost 3 MB compared to 600 KB in 1.4.5). Apart from that, the new branch does not seem to offer many new features, aside from being based on Python 2.5 instead of 2.2.

I've been working with 1.4.x version in the past (Ped, appuifw2) so I know this version pretty well. But maybe there's something I've missed when looking at 1.9.7 (only recently). If some of you guys know it better and would like to enlighten me if there are some real benefits to it and what to do about its size, I would be very thankful.

    Cheers,
    yak

You probably already know this, but since you didn't mention it: PyS60 1.9.7 supports detecting and handling of touch events (introduced in 1.9.3 I think), which can be extremely important for some applications.

    Thanks for reply.

No, I haven't looked into touch yet. What about standard controls like ListBox, Form and selection lists? Does touch work on these in 1.4.5?

I won't be needing Canvas if that's what you talk about.

If you don't intend to use Canvas then everything works just like in 1.4.5 from that point of view.

It would be worth to try PyS60 2.0 from the Software update and I believe it works with a PyS60 1.9.7 script shell. But certainly no change log yet! No feedback yet! No SDK yet!
