Is there a way you can use sqlite from python?

First of all sorry for my English.

I've been looking for information on this forum about this issue but all I found well-formulated questions and few answers.
The question is: is there a way to use sqlite from a program in Python (PyS60)?
I had an import error when i did "import _sqlite3" (I'm using PyS60 1.9.7 and working on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic)
I can not find any library in series 60 to make the binding between PyS60-Sqlite (as APSW, pysqlite ,...).
Does anyone know about a project to make this binding?

I had read these documents some days ago and I thought the situation might have changed.
e32db is a very interesting tool but I'm trying to port an application and I need sqlite features.
However, I hasn't used e32db yet and I should speak from experience (I rely on what I have read only), so I'll do some tests.

Since sqlite is highly portable you can try to create an extension module for it, using C.
Qt has sqlite as well, it can be an alternative if Python is not a requisite. See some examples here. Or you can sniff the Qt code and take a look in how they have ported sqlite to Qt.
