How can I get the cellid in Mobile Java?

Hi everyone,

I have to develop an application in Mobile Java that uses the cellid on an symbian device.
I want to know,does Mobile Java support this,that I can get the cellid.
If Mobile Java does support to get the cellid,how can I get it?
Does anyone know how to do this.

The device is S60.
Yes,I can get the cellid in the Java code followed:

System.getProperty("com.nokia.mid.cellid"); 

However,if I want to location my position by the cellid I get,I need to get another property:lac(locationAreaCode).
Using the two properties as arguments,through the database of the Mobile,I can get the longitude & latitude of my position.
How can I get lac?

com.nokia.mid.lac

Returns current GSM location area code (LAC) as a string. The SIM card must be inserted and service acquired in order to return a LAC value, otherwise returns null.

This value applies only to 2G devices for S60 3rd Edition FP 2 and Series 40 5th Edition FP 1

minor update regarding the info on Java Developer's Library

com.nokia.mid.lac

Returns current GSM location area code (LAC) as a string. The SIM card must be inserted and service acquired in order to return a LAC value, otherwise returns null.

This value applies only to 2G devices for S60 3rd Edition FP 2 and Series 40 5th Edition FP 1

In order to use the string in Series 40 devices, a manufacturer or operator domain signing is required as a prerequisite. The list of system properties which require a manufacturer or operator domain signing on Series 40 can be retrieved from the following Technical Solution on Forum Nokia Wiki:

The Java Developer's Library info is expected to be updated in near future regarding the signing requirements defined in Forum Nokia Wiki.

So I can not get the cellid and lac in Mobile Java on N72.Because N72 not suport this,my application will not cross-platform.

There is no cross-platform way to get these data.

also, unfortunately, even when the Java Developer's Library will be updated that won't mean older devices will be updated as well in regards to their functionality :P
So if your N72 doesn't support it now it will never do...

We have conidered to develop with Symbian C++.
But some one else teld us,it was best to develop it in Qt for Symbian.
Then we are confused.
Which one is better?Qt for Symbian or Symbian C++?What is the diffrences between them?

Qt is more cross-platform...
If I were you I would check the Qt introductory documentation, which can also be found on this same website...
After checking the documentation you will know what you are talking aboout and you will be able to give good and self-thought reasons why to choose for one platform against the other... Now you would just relay the opinion of others without actually knowing what you are talking about, which might get you in awckward situations later on...
