How do you change the name of an app?

What's the simplest way to change the application name that appears on an icon on the emulator or phone? Unfortunately, a lot of projects start with the same ten characters or so, so you can't tell them apart on the application menus.

Not looking for something fancy, translatable, portable, etc, just the simplest approach.

(And, yes, I know you can change the .rss files, but those get overwritten by Carbide each time you build, so there's got to be an additional trick.)

I thought you solved this problem yesterday in your similar thread. Pardon me, that file should be *.loc file. I referred to you .rss file by mistake.

Anyways it should work fine by changing string in the .loc file. I replied you yesterday only after experimenting at my side. It worked for me without any problem.

PS: I have Carbide.c++ v2.4 installed on my machine.

Just tried it again, on Carbide 3.2.0, Qt 4.6.1 freshly installed on Monday. The .loc file is overwritten by the build.

TARGET = appname
in the project file should work.

This will change executable name. And if I understood it correctly question was about a name, which appears under the icon in phone menu. At least on Maemo those two are not connected.

Jeeeze!!! 2.3 was supposedly the current version when I downloaded everything on Monday. The stability of these tools leaves a bit to be desired.

So did it work for you after upgrading to 2.4?

As said in the blog and thread for upgrading to Carbide.c++ 2.4, there is no any separate installer as of now. Hence, you have to follow the instructions as described in the blog or thread to upgrade it to latest version, i.e Carbide.c++ 2.4.
