File too large to be saved

Hi
we are developing j2me MIDlet application and we are try to deploy the application on Nokia 6212 (S40 5th Edition) device. The jar file size is 2.5 MB.

We tried OTA method (using IIS server).

The problem is it is not downloading on device. The error shown "File too large to be saved".

So what is the maximum size for jar to download on device. And the jar exceeds the maximum size limit then how can we deploy on device(OTA way)?

The maximum jar size for 6212 is 1 MB so there is no way to get you jar on the device. Did you already try to obfuscate the code? Do you use large images which could be adapted for mobile devices (color depth, clipping, comperession, ...)?

Check the specifications. Maximum JAR size is under "Memory Functions".

And the jar exceeds the maximum size limit then how can we deploy on device(OTA way)?

For devices with JAR size limits, the limit is hard, cannot be changed. You cannot deploy any application that exceeds the limit. You must make it smaller.

Tips for reducing size:

1. Use obfuscation in your build process.

2. Shrink PNG images with a tool like PNGOUT.

3. Check in your JAR - are there files that shouldn't be there? Check that source files (.java) are not there. Also, watch out for "thumbs.db" - it shouldn't be there either.

For more advice, you'll need to tell us more about what is in your JAR, such as what types of file, how many files of each type, and the total size of files for each type.
