playing sound in j2me

I am developing two applications . The first one is an informative app which has slideshow. This slideshow requires playing of music in the background.
The second app is a basic game (Tic -Tac -Toe) which consists of playing of iterative sound.

The problem i am facing is I am not able to play sound (using MMAPI ) on all phones since its an optional package so please provide me some solution

Hello,

I think you have to use Pre-processor directives to check if MMAPI exists in the Phone and use differnt configurations in you IDE. I use Netbeans and I can use different configurations.

other way is, I think this works:
version = System.getProperty ("microedition.media.version"); //check if MMAPI is available

version variable is null if MMAPI is not supported.

What devices do you want to support?

All MIDP-2 devices provide a subset of MMAPI (enough for playing sound) - it's a requirement of the MIDP-2 standard.
