Java support on future Nokia devices

also I am interested in where you get he Ovi download figures ? Specifically where the amount of java apps against, for example, native symbian apps ?

Hi, in a recent webinar from Nokia Chile (you can see it here - in spanish - http://forumnokia.emea.acrobat.com/p76453095/) some figures were given about the downloads in Chile: 46% Symbian, 26% Java, the rest are themes, images, WRT,... (Chile has about 95% mobile penetration, and in terms of consumers is like Spain).
I'm sure I saw some globall somewhere but could not find them now. If somebody finds something please share.

In my opinion, Nokia will continue to support J2ME. ... Think about people buying a gaming console: do they choose one because of the gigapixels it can draw, or do they choose the console with the games they want to play? (Nintendo won that battle to Sony and Microsoft).

Nokia can make nice things with games too, if they will apply more closer to hardware things like I said before : beep(ms, Hz, waveType); and built in effects.
I'm sure that these two things will make good environment for developers.

but... its all about marketing ( I hate it T_T ), so if this will be real, it will raise price for device or it will be not so soon.

I think J2ME is an important runtime, these apps run on Nokia, Sony Ericsson etc...
We can't afford to natively support Qt just to have some Nokia devices.
Please keep on providing a robust and bug free J2ME!

The eRCP package in the N8 is the 1.03 eRCP... Is nokia will give some phones compatible with the 1.3 eRCP package ?

Then, the java runtime 2.1 is now available for N8 but for S60 5ed, the available package is a beta... When can we download the final release of the 2.1 runtime ?

Probably not. Microsoft is not permitting any Java on Windows Phone 7. It is not likely that they'l make an exception for Nokia.

Its quite ridiculous that Microsoft is copying all the defects seen in iphone.

Please, Where can we JavaME developers find an authoritative, formal and definitive answer about "what about Java in future Nokia phones"?
No perhaps and no "I think", just the answer.
(To me no Java this means no Nokia, not anymore)

To my knowledge, Nokia have made no such statement. Nor is any manufacturer likely to commit to a single strategy and tell everyone.

One thing you can pretty much guarantee: MIDP's share of the market is dropping, and you should seriously consider broadening your development strategy.
