RTMP streaming

Hi,

I have observed a strange behavior while using RTMP streaming. I used wowza for streaming FLV (On2 VP6 15 fps 512 Kbps + Mp3 128 kbps). The stream plays well, however after every 15 secs or so it pauses for slightly less than a second and then resumes. Why would this happen?

Also can somebody share specs of encoding FLV which plays smoothly? I observe lots of frame skipping and synchronization between audio and video is poor, while the streaming.

Hi,

I have some experience with FLV streaming for Flash Lite. You didn't mentioned the frame size of your video. You might also try to lower the bit rates a little. For example, (320x240 On2 VP6 15 fps 384 Kbps + Mp3 96 kbps).

Also check if the server is throwing the video stream too fast, I have noticed that FL plays FLV stream quite well if stream is just a little bit more than total encoding data rate (video + audio kbps). If it's sent too fast to FL, the video starts pausing after some playback.

Same can happen if the data is sent at slow speed than required. Video will be paused and buffered, then resumes when buffer is full.

Hi,

I am using 320x240 resolution. I tried your suggestion, but no luck. STill the same...
Only positive thing with RTMP is that the video/audio doesnt stop after some time as it happens with HTTP progressive download on some phones (N96, N95). However, this again can be solved using bandwidth throtling, as you have suggested.

But over all the user experince with FLV is not at all good.

Hi,

I have some problems with rtmp live streaming on Wowza server via Flash Lite 3.1 Stub application. Streams are 264.h, base 3 in sdp format and are playing without problems in Adobe Device Central Emulator on PC. But on the device only 1 second of the sound without video is playing. After that, stream stops.
Does anybody have some suggestions on this? Wowza server is Free version.

I guess its because FL3 does not support H.264, FL4 will support it.

Hi,

I have tried with 263.H now with the same result. On the streaming server I see a 'stop' message in the log during the same second as the stream starts so in the log 'start stream' and 'stop stream' happens at the same time. So the server stops sending the packages to the device.
Is this Wowza issue or something else? I will try the same thing on Flash Media Server. Does anyone have some "test" rtmp live streams on FMS to test?

Maybe you should first try plain VP6 or On2 codec based FLV, when it works, then try the other options.

You can encode any video to FLV using Flash Media Encoder which comes with Flash CS3/CS4/CS5.
