I have a Nokia N97 and was planning to make some apps for the same, but when I came to get the SDK there are two SDK's one is the N97 SDK and the other is the S60v5 SDK. Common sense tells me that I should choose the N97 SDK but if I make some app for the N97 and then later try to run the same app on say another S60v5 device, will it work ?

Secondly, can it be said that the N97 SDK is a subset of S60v5 SDK and if it is not then what are the extra features that either one of the has.

Does this mean that the S60v5 does not support Home Screen widgets

Yes. The N97 SDK is more of a superset than a subset = S60 5th Ed SDK + additional N97 stuff that won't work on other S50 5th Ed. models.

Perfect answer, thank you very much. I will hence need to download the N97 SDK because I am primarily making apps for it

Unless you plan to use the 2 additional APIs (native support for home screen publishing and out of memory manager) the S60 5th Edition SDK is still good enough for you, and would guarantee* that your app works on all S60 5.0 devices.
