E75 A-GPS should ALWAYS start on start-up

Hi,

I am just wondering if one of you might have an idea on how to get the GPS respectively the A-GPS started once the mobile will be turned on. I want/need the GPS startend whenever the mobile will be started by the user.

Any suggestions, ideas, tips, hints and links are highly appreciated!!!

The GPS chip will "start" as soon as a client application asks for location info. If that application happens to start on boot then the location server will start at the same time too and will start providing the info.

Remember though that a phone runs on battery and the GPS chip likes to eat its content. A lot. So what you "need" may not be what the user "wants".

Sorry that I haven't replied earlier, but it seems to be that I haven't said in detail what I want/need to achieve.

Here is my problem in detail:

I am about to code an application and that NEEDS GPS! So, I haven't found as yet a code-snippet or detailed informations on how to get the GPS working once the mobile starts.

The problem is that the application needs to get a gps location FAST once it is started. Thus it would be very helpful if the gps is always on so that a gps position is available at any time and the application does not need to wait for a gps fix that could possibly take minutes.

Hope you or anyone else can help!

basically you would then need to have a background process started that would keep checking the GPS, anyway as said by chief, it is propably not idea from the user point of view, since it really would kill the battery .

Well, knowing that the GPS will eat lots of the battery, we still have to get the GPS started once the mobile starts. Have you got a code-snippet or a Link on how to get the GPS started as a background process on hand?

As you have an application that already reads the GPS, you can use same code for the background application, so no additional snipped needed really.

I couldn't find anything really helpful using $Searchengine telling me how to get my Java-App being a background process.

Would you mind explaining me how to achieve that?

Well, the presumption was that you are working on Symbian, where multitasking is possible and where I don't think having a Java app running in the background is much if a problem (if you don't consider the overhead), although that has nothing to do with LBS so you should better ask on the Mobile Java forums how to solve that bit. A power efficient daemon should however be written in Symbian C++, and then eventually use a Java client/front-end for it.
