"Application is for development use only"

"Application is for development use only. Continuing use may cause damage to your device." (Or words to that effect.)

I got this on my N97 mini while installing an app from our vendor (message was associated with an embedded sis file, apparently), and the installation then failed with error code 2153775105 reported in Ovi.

Am I correct in interpreting this to mean that the embedded application in the package is signed with a developer's certificate tied to a different phone?

Apparently I diagnosed it correctly. Now trying to figure out how to get the online signing thing to work.

Qt for S60 is currenly in technology preview stage, not suitable for production code (stability and performance wise). The Qt for S60 libraries are not yet Symbian Signed either so:
you can develop your application (for learning and testing purposes) but there is no binary compatibility guarantee as of now
even if you want to use Symbian Signed for a Qt application now, you can't
There is no licensing fee (license for what?) and Symbian Signed is recommended even if not mandatory (once Qt itself signed).

While I'll agree with you on the stability/performance points, I think you're wrong on the others. The qt-installer.sis is Symbain signed (to my recollection I didn't get a warning when installing it) and you can Symbian sign Qt applications. The missing piece is the installer.
