Hi, i was just wondering if any of you devellopers are able to write an app to do this.
it should be cool to see the distance in: cm, m, ft, inch or similar on the screen.
so if u have an object 50 CM away from the sensor it will display 50 SM on the display

    Thanks Richard

Actually not that easy to make with just a sensor, since it measures acceleration in XYZ axis only, so not actual movements.

Acceleration in combination with time can actually mean *roughly* measuring movement - inertial navigation does this - but still, that measures the movement of the device, not objects around it. If you have a gyroscope and a camera in the device, however, parallax change in captured images would also give enough information to determine a *rough* distance.

surely you could also determine the walking style of a person from acceleration sensor, and use GPS to see how much certain patterns would move the actual position, but you would never know exactly when the device is moved 50 centimeter in any direction on the XYZ axis.
