    Hi,

I recently implemented a small Symbian application which uses Google static map API for navigation.
I would like to make it open source and develop it together with those who are interested.

I have implemented the browsing feature. Basically user can browse the map by pressing navigation key and also zoom feature is implemented.
My recent plan is to add the following features to the program:

    1. GPS postioning
    2. Allow user to input address and mark it in the map
    3. show interested places nearby , like pizza, restaurant.
    4. "route from" and "route to" feature
    5. save favorate location as landmark
    6. upload pictures to google map

If you are interested and want to contribute, you can contact me by this email guoqing.zhang(at)tut.fi
I can zip the code to you. The code is under GPL license so you have to deliver your changes back to the community if you find any bug or implement any new feature. I will merge the changes from different developers into one common baseline and distribute it back to the community by email.

Hope to hear from you soon

How about hosting the project on a site such as http://sourceforge.net/ or http://code.google.com/hosting/ ? It would be much more efficient than passing zip files around...

    Hi,

I put my code into http://code.google.com/p/symbianmapnavi/ and now it is free for everyone to download. And I also post a similar thread in google maps API discussion group. It is better to publish the information on both sites since we have better knowledge on Symbian OS and they have better knowledge on Google map API. The project will definitely benefit from this. Here is the link of my thread in google groups: http://groups.google.com/group/Googl...9baa1882140aa#

As I mentioned before, Symbian is the most widely used mobile phone OS and map navigation is currently a hot topic. But unfortunately most of the tutorials out there are actually meant for javascript developers. The purpose of this open source project is to find a standard model of using google map API which doesn't violate the Terms of usages of google map API and implement a sample code from which other symbian developers can start. I believe this will benefit plenty of symbian developers.

So if you would like to discuss with me about this project, feel free to contact me by reply the post or send me email guoqing.zhang(at)tut.fi. Let's together do something to benefit ourselves.

Hope to hear from you soon !
