We use the Nokia Mail for Exchange client, which works fine. Only real issue is the high data charges when roaming outside the UK. To get round this we would like to use a WiFi connection whenever one is available.

When setting up the Mail for Exchange client, it asks which default Connection to use, and we (have to) set that to our Network Operators.

Does anyone know for certain please - if the phone has an active WiFi connection, will it use this in preference to the default (mobile) connection we have specified. Would be great if it did!

    thanks in advance

    Rou.

ESeries devices have the capability of switching access points on the fly. Other Nokia headsets do not have this by default but there are some 3rd party solutions. If this support is not available, not configured or not supported by a particular application then the access point used is the one configured in application's settings. All the time.

More end-user support you can find at http://discussions.europe.nokia.com.

    Hi,
I'm very interested in what you say, - E series can switch connection On the Fly. But exactly what does that mean in terms of mail for Exchange?

Are you saying that if a user has a WiFi connection the E65 will automatically use that in preference to a 3G connection?

With the number of business users out there I'm really surprised this isn't documented somewhere?

    thanks

    Rou.

Well, check the user manual for both the phone and the email application. As said, try to discuss this topic at http://discussions.europe.nokia.com.

ltomuta, you'd better read more carefully users posts. Your answers were not on author questions.
roubarb want to ask: is there any possibility to configure nokia or mail for exchange to use wi-fi when it become available, and when it does not available use something else as default (like GPRS,3G and etc.).
Okay, i'll anwer: there is no such functionality in mail for exchange application.
so you have to staticly set your connection.
I hope that developers will emplement this in future releases.
All that we can do - to wait.

Thanks for your advice, although if you would follow it yourself, you would realize the following:
    - my answers do not contradict your recent finding although it looks at the problem from the application development angle (i.e. how would Mail for Exhange developers implement such feature and whether the OS provides the underlying functionality)
    - if your ask a butcher which sausage is the best you will certainly get his answer but you may not necessarily like the details, so better ask someone that is not that involved into the sausage making process (therefore my recommendation to use the proper end-user forum)

    Yeah, i understand you.
When i tryed to find simmilar question i entered "forum" in nokia search and this forum was the first result. So i thought that this is where i can ask question.
And on page with MfE no information about who is developer and where can i found support about this application.. I guess it's a reason of my and topic authors missunderstandings.
    Anyway thanks for support!
    ps: sorry for bad English.

My suspicion is that MfE will attempt an https:// connection to your Exchange server so make sure that you have SSL enabled and a trusted certificate. For more concrete help, look for the MfE logs on device and get in touch with MfE product support.
