N900, getting data from the IR sensor?

Does anyone know how I get to use (especially receive data from) the IR sensor? I wish to control certain states of the phone by what signal it gets thru the IR sensor.

What libs, tutorials, codesnippets are all good input to my question

N900 does have IR receiver hardware or not ?

It has emitter but really receiver or not is still a question.

So it does not have a IR camera, just a diode to send IR. Im working on a app that when it comes in range with my car it will turn on the FM sender and other audio related stuff... guess i have to look more at bluetooth.

It's better to work with Bluetooth than IR sensor, Because there is no more update available about IR sensor in N900.
