problem of installation

I have problems in installing carbide.
I follows the step as the tutorial says, Installing all the components in following order

1. Install Active Perl first (SDK requires ActivePerl to be installed)

2. Install SDK

3. Install Carbide.C++

The tutorial said that

1. Install all the components with defaults ( well for at least your helloworld code) , later you can go advance

2. Install all the components to C: drive , usually it gets installed at two locations


But when I installed activePerl, it was installed to E:drive defaultly.
It did not give me the chance to change the drive.

So when I installed SDK and Carbide, I changed the default C to e. For example , if the default is C:\Symbian, I changed that to E:\Symbian because the tutorial said that all must be in the same drive.

But after installing carbide, it said that I have not installed sdk. What is the problem?

You first uninstall the SDK and install again in the same derive.

You should install these tools with administrator rights, and in case of Vista/Windows 7 it is not enough to have the rights, you should use them explicitly: use right-click and Run as Administrator when installing them.

Thanks for the replies. I cannot use net these days because of the flu.

Now I can choose the drive when I install ActivePerl. At the first time, it is just because of the mouse problem, so I did't know that I skip the form that gave me the chance to choose the drive I want. Now I can install all in the same folder.

As you said, I installed the carbide choosing "run as admin" . But After installing, when I opne carbide, it just show the page including the message such as
"JVM terminated. Exit code=-1
-Xms40m
-Xmx1024m
-xx:MaxPermSize=96M
-Djava.class.path=C:\Program Files\Nokia\Carbide.c++
v2.3\plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.200.v20090520.jar

What is the problem?
Please help me.

Thank you very much for the replies.
I have checked that link and solved my problem editing my Carbide.c++.1.x.ini (or eclipse.ini if launching Eclipsec.exe) and using a smaller value for the -Xmx paramater to the JVM.

Now I can open Carbide.
But when I tested a program, it does not work.
When I build the program, the error message shown is
"bldmake returned with exit value=9"
"EPOCROOT environment variable must be capitalised"

When I run the project, the error message shown is
"Launching b Emulator Debug(WINSCW)
[S60_3rd_FP1_3]' has encountered a problem."

What is the problem?

I have done as the link you pointed out said.

Run a command prompt as administrator. From the start menu, select "All Programs", then "Accessories" and right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator". From here you can use the following command to disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) with the following command:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

but it still does not work.
Whenever I start carbide, a message box shown that

" Problems were reported while validating model "application.uidesign'.
These should be fixed before building or running the application."

When I build or run the program, the error message as I before mentioned in the earlier post has been still shown.

Change the folder name back to S60_3rd_FP1.
_3 informs that you have reinstalled sdk at least 3 times.
And check from start menu, that shortcuts are pointing to the new folder (=S60_3rd_FP1).

You could check if the emulator can be launched from the Start Menu (the SDK has a program group in it). The problem with application.uidesign has nothing to do with the SDK/emulator (it comes from Carbide.c++), so renaming it will not fix that particular issue, but may cause additional ones.
