You could maybe just check our wiki examples, as well as search this forum for earlier discussions.

Here's an article that should get you started with SMS: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/SMS_Operations, and for calls, you could check CTelephony API, it can be used for monitoring the phone line. and if you need to also do somehting with logs, then do check log client examples from our wiki.
