    Hello,

I'm a bit confused with some changes that have taken place in the last months regarding OVI publishing.
I have read the current OVI Publisher Guide.

Nokia can sign applications for the publisher, for free. That's great, but is there's any drawback? Or is it only for individual developers? Why would anyone, individual or company, want to pay if it can be done for free?

What if you are a registered company, and OVI publisher registered as such, have a Symbian publisher ID, every signing still invlolves a cost ($10 if I remember well), is there any reason (incentive) to still go for that option then?

    Thank you.

I gotta say that I'm not official Ovi support person, so I might have holes in my knowledge. anyway, I think I did read from somewhere that the Nokia signing for ovi, means also that you can only distribute the signed apps through Ovi, as well as you do need to use Ovi UIDs for them.

Thus, if you want to use the sis files for any other channel, you would need to still sign those by yourself, also you need to modify the Ovi version to use Ovi assigned UIDs, thus if you want to have another distributions, you would need to have two versions of the application.

Thus for some developers, the 10$ is not enough for the additional work needed for utilizing it, anyway, it depends solely on your own preferences.

The incentive to go for classic signing is hidden in Nokias contract. If you want to distribute via a carrier store, you need to sign via the SF.
