Design patterns are a good way of making sure that code is flexible and can easily adapt to change. However, it introduces extra overhead in terms of processing or storage. (Wrapper classes, for instance).
In J2ME, this is more of a problem, since there you have to worry about the resource constraints of your mobile device. Is there any way to quantify how much resource a specific design technique will consume?
How much importance should be given towards achieving flexibility? While technology can only get better, mobile device applications at the moment are generally small and therefore also easier to maintain.
