I had an N8 and I first connected it to my office laptop for testing and OVI can't detect it no matter what I do. In Qt Creator, it can detect the device though. Just can't install anything because the OVI can't see it. I also tried it on my personal laptop(with OVI and SDK), same.

What I did was, I installed OVI to a different pc that has no Qt SDK yet, and it was able to detect the device. So what I did in my office laptop and personal laptop was uninstall SDK first, then connected the device, OVI was able to detect it. Then I just reinstalled Qt SDK.

Now, I have another N8 and OVI refuses to detect it again.

Does that mean I need to uninstall Qt SDK if I want to use a different device? So if I use 10 different mobile phones, I need to uninstall SDK 10 times as well? :S

Probably you need to drop-kick the N8 -- they seem to be nothing but trouble around here.

drop-kick? what's that? literally drop and kick the device? oh i would love that. lol Just kidding. But seriously, I tried rebooting the laptop and the phone, unplug/replug the usb cable. OVI still can't detect it.

Qt can detect it though, and I can access N8 through explorer. Connectivity > USB > Nokia Ovi Suite (Active) is shown on the device. I don't want to uninstall Qt cause it takes really long to install it. I still need to code stuff. Is there any other way?

Qt Creator doesn't do anything special with the device. It does use the same API as Ovi Suite uses but at least in my experience that does not create a problem.
To me this sounds like a Ovi Suite issue. Make sure you have the latest Ovi Suite, and eventually use the Ovi Suite feedback channel in betalabs to report found issues, if you can reproduce them with the beta version too.

I tried it on my laptop at home, OVI was able to detect it. Hmm.. I don't remember installing any update on my OVI but maybe that's probably it. Thanks! I'll try to update the OVI at the other laptop.

I already updated OVI in our office laptop but it still cant detect the device. =( Already rebooted the pc, the device, switched to different usb ports. Nothing. I guess I really do need to uninstall Qt first.

Thanks for trying to help though.

One thing that occurs with Carbide and runonphone is that the COM channel is already used by either one of the apps and they refuse the connection. Maybe something similar with Creator as that uses the same TRK protocol as Carbide and runonphone. To fix this is for Ovi Suite run the connection wizard from Ovi suite and it will be able to reconnect again. (least this works for PC suite)

Try from a cold boot starting Ovi, without ever starting Creator (and make sure there's no autostart thingie for Creator).
