How to use PNG Icons without white Frames

Hey guys, as you can see, I'm pretty new here.
Today i experienced a curious wish: I wanted to create my own Symbian^3 theme, since I don't like those free in OVI and I don't want to pay up to 5 € for a good looking cell.
I started pretty well, installed Paint.net and Inkscape for modifying the template.
I found some pics on the Internet and then I wanted to adjust the theme for myself, what worked very well. Just until i got to the icons. I thought: Well search some free PNG Icons and some free .ICO Icons and put them into your Theme. Well thats the tragic flaw. I hate white frames around these Images. How do I remove them?

Yes I tried to convert them toSVG. But I don't like to convert any icons I like, that would be to much work and sometimes it doesnt work neither.

I hope I can get some help.

Btw: I'm using Carbide UI 4.0 on Windows 7 HP x86 (Don't think anyone needs that but well you know )

Symbian is build with SVG images and not PNG. Use Inkscape (free) or Adobe Illustrator (paid) to draw your own icons. Png gets really ugly when streching them to correct resolution. SVG uses vectors. Have fun!

Is it possible to use png files as a kind of templates? Otherwise: I think I will have fun thank you

Yes it's possible. You can use IcoFx to draw icons for free or change those you downloaded from internet. Maybe this forum would have more information for you: http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?board=52.0
