Homescreen widget without icon/shortcut in applications menu

I have a widget that I want to use only as a homescreen widget (actually it is used as a homescreen component for a separate Qt application). The problem is that installing the widget always creates a shortcut in the applications menu.

Is there a way to hide a widget's icon from the application menu (just like we can do this for native applications)?
